Biological Sciences Major with French minor, 2011

Currently in Fairbanks, Alaska
From Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

“As a Biology major, French was not a huge aspect of my degree. However, taking French really helped shape my college career. Learning a foreign language helped to open up another part of my mind and immerse me in another culture. At UAF, the instructors not only taught the language, but also the lifestyle of being in France.

I visited France in high school, but was unable to really interact with others because of the language barrier. I stayed with a family in Provence, but had to speak English the entire time due to my confidence and comprehension being so low. Now, with 3 years of studies at the college level, I feel that when I travel back I will be able to communicate with others on a higher level. I know for a fact that I would not have enjoyed my time at UAF as much as I did without these French courses. I am a young mother now but I intend to use my French training in my professional future. Thank you!”
