The UAF French program has added a wonderful dimension to my life. I wasn’t sure, as an older student, whether I’d be up for learning a new language in retirement, but Yelena Matusevich told me that it was the best “anti-aging” strategy I’d ever find. I’ve always been enamored with French cuisine, culture, history, and in particular, the language, so I signed up for my first class. Now, after several years of classes and attending French Club, where I’ve gotten to practice my new skills, I have a good grounding in the language and a whole new set of friends. Last fall, I read “Madame Bovary” in French (with my dictionary close by) and was absolutely thrilled. I highly recommend this life-enriching experience.
